Office of the Secretary to the NEC

The Office of the Secretary to the National Executive Council serves as the principal administrative body supporting the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Papua New Guinea. Established under the Constitution, this office plays a critical role in coordinating government policy, facilitating cabinet processes, and ensuring effective implementation of executive decisions across all government agencies.

Our Mandate

The Office is mandated to provide high-quality secretariat and advisory services to the National Executive Council. Its primary responsibilities include:

Coordinating and managing cabinet meetings and processes
Ensuring proper documentation and communication of cabinet decisions
Monitoring implementation of government policies and programs
Providing policy advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers
Facilitating inter-agency coordination on national priorities
Maintaining the institutional memory of government decision-making

Provides legal advice on constitutional and legislative matters and cabinet submissions.

Corporate Services Division

Manages human resources, finance and information technology functions of the office.

Communications Division

Handles public relations, media liaison and internal communications.
